Matching Your Footwear To Your Jeans
Sometimes finding the right shoes to wear with your jeans is a no-brainer. Other times it can be downright frustrating to find just the right pair of shoes to go with a particular pair of jeans.
There are some general guidelines to help you figure out what will work, but in reality there are usually as many exceptions as rules. Sometimes you just have to try them on see, you might be surprised what really looks best.
The first rule is that if you're going shoe shopping, wear the jeans that you need shoes to go with. You may not think it's necessary, but it is. I can't tell you how many times I've bought a pair of shoes thinking that they would look fantastic with a particular pair of jeans, and they didn't.
Suggestions For Pairing Shoes With Jeans:
Skinny Jeans - The one jeans style that almost any shoe goes with. Skinny jeans look great with flip flops, sneakers, sandals, flats, heels and are especially great with boots. I'm not sure what shoe style that skinny jeans don't go with.
Boot-Cut Jeans - While not quite as flexible, boot-cut jeans also have many styles that work with them. The biggest difference is that while all shoe styles could potentially work well, one pair of flats might look great, but another might not. Most heels look great with boot-cut jeans, but again, it's very important to try them with the jeans.
Flare or Wide-Leg Jeans - The least flexible, but to me, they have the most impact. I stick with a great pair of high heels or boots that have a high heel. Flare or wide-leg jeans almost need a dramatic shoe. The big exception for me is a distressed pair of flare jeans that are short enough, often looks best with a great pair of flip flops or flat sandals or even ballet flats.
